Romans 7:25-8:11
Paul makes it clear in these passages that If I am in Christ Jesus I am set free from the bondage of sin. Even so, there is a war being waged between my flesh, and my inner self. In chapter 7 there are two laws spoke of; the law of God in the mind – and the law of sin in the flesh.
The Law of God – commandments brings the law of sin to life in verse 8. Once the law of sin comes to life, death is brought to man. Paul says that these two laws will forever be at war in this life. Therefore, for me in this life the battle is never truly won.
In Chapter 8 Paul speaks of the law of the spirit. Christ comes and condemns sin in the flesh. Before the spirit comes our mind could only focus on the flesh. But now we have a choice! We can choose to walk in the flesh or be victorious as we walk in the Spirit.
vv 7&8 tells us we cannot submit to God’s law, and we cannot please God if we are in the flesh. vv 10 & 11 tell us we must have Christ to be victorious over sin & death. No other options are given. Therefore, our mind then must constantly work to remain in the Spirit not flesh.
